Whether you are a busy mum, fitness enthusiast or just like something comfortable to wear whilst you are sewing… these yoga pants are just the thing! Exclusively for Birch Fabrics, they come in sizes XS-XL and with just 1 pattern piece, they will be even quicker to whip up!
The mod basics solids, knit fabrics are made with 5% spandex making them extra comfortable and the perfect choice for projects like these!
Supplies
- 1.5-2 yards of mod basics solids, knit (95% organic cotton, 5% spandex)
- 1″ elastic
- free yoga pants pdf pattern*
*Pattern includes assembly and cutting diagram, supplies and measurements tables for different sizes as well as layers options to ‘turn off’ the sizes you don’t need. Ever since Titchy Threads pioneered the layers option in PDF patterns, I have been meaning to include it in one of my patterns… and now I have!*
Optional:
- 2 eyelets (or sew buttonholes instead)
- t-shirt yarn or twill tape for ties. Cut to desired length.
Preparation
Assemble pdf pattern and cut out your size from prewashed fabric. Transfer pattern makings.
Using an overlocker/serger will definitely make the sewing process faster but instructions are also included for those using a standard sewing machine. For the best finish, a cover stitcher or double needle is preferred but you can still get a similar finish using a nice stretch stitch.

Instructions
Seams are 1/2″ unless otherwise stated.
Step 1
With right sides facing (RSF) align the centre FRONT seams and sew together with a stretch stitch or narrow zig zag and finish with an overlock or zig zag stitch.
Step 2
With RSF align the centre BACK seams and sew together with a stretch stitch or narrow zig zag and finish with an overlock or zig zag stitch.
Step 3
With RSF, align the two centre seams, and sew the inside leg seam with a stretch stitch or narrow zig zag and finish with an overlock or zig zag stitch.
Step 4
Attach eyelets or sew button holes to front of waist as marked on pattern.
Step 5
Overlap the waistband elastic by 1/2″ and sew together using an elastic stitch.
Step 6
Pin waistband to wrong side of waist and sew in place using either an elastic stitch or overlock stitch.
Step 7
Thread drawstring through eyelets and around waistband.
Step 8
Fold waistband to wrong side of pants and top stitch in place using a double needle or an elastic top stitch. Make sure you keep the drawstring above the top stitching.
Step 9
Finish leg cuff raw edge using a zig zag or overlock stitch, fold under by 1″ and top stitch in place using a double needle or an elastic top stitch.
